Founded by Clemente Guasti in the heart of Nizza Monferrato, Guasti Clemente has been a pioneer in Barbera wine production since the post-war era. Clemente’s visionary approach led to the labeling of wines with their vineyard origins, introducing the concept of “cru” to Barbera. His innovations extended to sparkling wine production, as he was among the first in Italy to use steel autoclaves for the Martinotti-Charmat method. Today, under the leadership of his grandson, Enrico Piantato, the winery continues its commitment to excellence, particularly through its production of “Nizza” Barbera, an exclusive DOCG designation since 2014. The Guasti family's winemaking legacy dates back to Secondo Guasti, who emigrated to California in 1881 and planted the world’s largest vineyard, establishing a town that still bears his name.
